Coach Jackson Recognized as an ASU Outstanding Alumni

On Saturday, November 21st Florence High School Physical Education Teacher and Head Wrestling Coach Spencer Jackson was recognized as an Outstanding Alumni for the Arizona State University Mary Lou Fulton College of Education. Mr. Jackson was nominated, and later awarded, the 2013 ASU Teacher Candidate of the Year, the same year of his college graduation.

The award is sponsored by “Extra Yard For Teachers” through the College Football Playoff. This company is designating $1.5 million dollars to support education and teachers. Part of the recognition Mr. Jackson received was two tickets to the game, a pregame luncheon with the selection committee and an on field presentation during the 3rd quarter of the ASU vs. U of A football game.

Mr. Jackson, when asked about Florence High School and the work he does for our district replied, “What we are doing at Florence High School with our athletes is instilling character, integrity and accountability in their lives. We have set high expectations for them as student athletes in the classroom and in competition. There is nothing more important than developing model citizens and men/women of character that can graduate from Florence with tools of ambition for greatness.”
