For the First Time in 100 Years, FHS Wrestlers Win Section Championship

The Florence High School Wrestling team qualified 11 athletes for state and won the first section championship in over 100 years. The Division IV, Section III Championship was earned with a total team score of 182.0. Second place was Snowflake with 178.0 and third was Fountain Hills with 161.0.

The 11 student-athletes that qualified for state, by placing in the top four at sectionals, were as follows:
- 106 lbs. JORDAN HOLCOMB-Champion
- 113 lbs. MATEO MONTOYA- 4th
- 120 lbs. JEREMIAH McDONALD-2nd
- 126 lbs. JEFFREY CORDOVA-4th
- 132 lbs. NATHAN LAMAS- Champion
- 138 lbs. ALEJANDRO BANDILLA – 2nd
- 145 lbs. NOLAN SUSEL-2nd
- 152 lbs. AXEL MARTINEZ- 3rd
- 182 lbs. TINO GARCIA-4th
- 195 lbs. MANOLITO RAMIREZ-4th
- 220 lbs. XAVIER VILLALOBOS- Champion

Head Coach Spencer Jackson Quote: “We are excited to wrestle for the State Championship for Division IV on Friday, February 12th and Saturday, February 13th at Prescott High School. It’s always a good day to be a Gopher!”
