Economics class this week simulated scarcity, opportunity cost, and international trade. The students had to “mine” the chocolate chips out of the cookie. They were given pretzel rods that represented lumber. With twenty chocolate chips and twenty pretzel pieces the students received a point for their country. Problems began to arise when “natural disasters” and resources began running low. Students then had to begin to trade resources with other groups trying to get as many points as possible.
